Sir,
A few days ago, on a clear day without any rain or strong winds, a large tree — seemingly healthy — was suddenly uprooted on KRS Road near the Railway Hospital. It fell onto a moving two-wheeler just ahead of my vehicle. Fortunately, the rider and pillion passenger escaped with only minor injuries, but the incident could have been far more tragic.
This alarming event highlights how the outward appearance of a tree can be misleading. What appears to be a healthy tree may, in reality, be structurally compromised.
There may be many such trees in and around Mysuru that pose similar risks. I earnestly request the Mysuru City Corporation, in collaboration with the Forest Department, to undertake a thorough evaluation of the health and stability of trees in and around Mysuru.
Trees identified as vulnerable should be marked for removal and replaced with new saplings, which should be carefully nurtured. Such proactive measures by the authorities could go a long way in preventing accidents and, more importantly, saving lives.
