Mysuru: N.R. Police have arrested a youth on charges of stealing cash from the office he had worked earlier and have seized Rs. 6,78,000 cash and a Maruti Swift car from him.
The arrested youth has been identified as 24-year-old Sebi Moses, a native of Batteri village, Wayanad district, Kerala and a resident of Bannimantap in city.
Moses was working at the office of one Nikhil Shaji in Bannimantap HUDCO Colony, where Nikhil used to help students from Kerala to get admissions to colleges in city.
Nikhil, on July 22, had kept Rs. 7 lakh cash in his office, which he had collected from the students and had been to Kerala. When he returned on July 28 and went to his office, he found the lock intact, but on entering the office, he found the cash missing and immediately lodged a complaint at N.R. Police Station.
In his complaint, Nikhil had mentioned about an employee named Moses who had left the job following differences with the employer and also about one key missing among the four keys of the office.
On July 29, N.R. Police picked up Moses near his room and on interrogating him, the Police came to know that Moses was doing field-work in the office of Nikhil and had left the job after fighting with him.
But before leaving the job, Moses had allegedly got a duplicate key of the office and on July 22, Moses entered the office using the duplicate key and had made away with the cash kept by Nikhil in the office.
Based on the information provided by the accused, the Cops have recovered Rs. 6.78 lakh kept in the Maruti Swift car which was used for the crime besides seizing the car used for the crime.
Moses was produced before a Magistrate last evening, who has remanded him to Judicial custody.
DCP Dr. Vikram V. Amathe supervised N.R. Inspector T. Ashok Kumar and staff Ramesh, Manjunath and Mahadev in the nabbing, recovering and seizing operation.
