Mysuru: Unable to repay the loans he had taken from a bank and private financiers, a farmer attempted suicide by consuming poison at his land at Honnenahalli in Pandavapura taluk yesterday morning.
People who saw him lying in the field, rushed him to Chinnakurali Primary Health Centre (PHC) where he was provided first aid and was later rushed to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru, where he breathed his last at about 8.30 pm yesterday.
The deceased farmer has been identified as Mahadevappa (65). He leaves behind his wife, three daughters and a son.
Mahadevappa, who owned 1.5 acre land, had taken a loan of Rs. 58,000 from PLD Bank and had not paid the instalments resulting in the loan amounting to Rs. 1 lakh and had also taken Rs. 2 lakh hand loans from private financiers. The Bank and private financiers were pressurising him to repay the loans, which led Mahadevappa to take the extreme step.
Post-mortem was conducted at MMC&RI mortuary today and the body was handed over to his family members. Pandavapura Police has registered a case.
