Farmer ends life over debts

February 28, 2025

Mysuru: A farmer, depressed over increased debts and unable to repay the loans he had taken, committed suicide by consuming pesticides at Bilikere Police limits on Feb. 20.

The deceased farmer is Dasharatha (37), a resident of Yachegowdanahalli in Mysuru taluk.

Dasharatha had taken a crop loan at a nationalised bank besides taking hand loans and loans from Co-op Societies. Due to failure in crops, he was unable to repay the loans and had spoken about it with his family members.

On Feb. 20, Dasharatha left his house on his bike saying that he was going to the hospital at Bilikere but did not return home and the next day, a villager informed the family members over phone that Dasharatha was found dead under a tree.

When the family members rushed to the spot, they found the bike and pesticides kept on the bike following which Dasharatha’s brother-in-law Rakesh lodged a complaint with Bilikere Police, who have registered a case.
