Farmer ends life over debts

H.D. Kote: Unable to repay the loans he had taken from a microfinance company and private money lenders, a farmer ended his life by consuming poison at Kaniyanahundi village in the taluk.

The deceased is Jayaramegowda (55) of the village. It is learnt that he had taken Rs. 10 lakh loan from Equitas, Jana Small Finance Bank Ltd. and from private money lenders to grow ginger and banana in his 3 acre-land. As the crops failed, he had suffered a loss. It is said that, Jayaramegowda used to tell his family members that he would commit suicide.
