Mysuru: Urging the Government to immediately release water to canals from Kabini and Taraka reservoirs which are full to the brim, hundreds of farmers, under the banner of KRRS (Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha), staged a demonstration in front of CADA (Cauvery) Office on Sayyaji Rao Road here this morning.

“With the failure of monsoon rains, farmers in Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts are facing a crisis due to shortage of water for growing crops. But the authorities, who seems to be more interested in releasing water to Tamil Nadu, have not bothered to release water to canals from Kabini and Taraka reservoirs, much to the anguish of the local farming community.  The Govt. should waste no time in releasing water to canals and thus save the farmers from crop loss and financial distress,” they urged and warned of intensifying their protest if the Government fails to release water.

The farmers registered their protest by squatting and sleeping  on the busy Sayyaji Rao Road, which resulted in the disruption of vehicular movement on both sides of the ever-busy road for some time.

The angry farmers also broke the Police cordon and barged to the CADA Office premises, raising slogans against the Government and the authorities for neglecting them and not bothering to address their issues.

KRRS President Badagalapura Nagendra, office-bearers Hoskote Basavaraj, Hosur Kumar, Marankaiah and others were present.
