Farmers demand withdrawal of anti-agricultural laws

December 7, 2022

Mysore/Mysuru: Activists of Karnataka State Farmers Association and Hasiru Sene staged a protest near Deputy Commissioner (DC)’s Office on Monday seeking fulfilment of  their various demands including withdrawal of three anti-Agriculture Amendments made to the APMC Act by the Union Government.

The protestors urged the State Government not to privatise power sector.

“The Government should desist from fixing meters to agricultural pumpsets and legally fix prices for agricultural crops. The rates for vegetables should be fixed on the lines of Kerala Government. The height of Alamatti dam should be raised from 518 to 524 feet. The farmers of the State are in total distress from the year 2009 to 2022 following various natural calamities. Farmers should be immediately paid crop loss compensation and provided crop insurance benefits. Loans obtained by the farmers towards the purchase of tractor, crops, land development and green house should be completely waived off,” urged the farmers.

“The gomala lands should not be distributed to industrialists or any organisations. Uniform sugarcane rates should be fixed for the sugar factories of all districts,” the protesting farmers stated.
