Mysore/Mysuru: Strongly condemning the inaction of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on his promise made to the farmers when they laid siege to his residence at Bengaluru a couple of months ago, the KRRS (Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha) will hold a massive farmers rally at Mandya on Sept. 19.

Announcing this at a press meet at Patrakarthara Bhavan here yesterday, KRRS President Badagalapura Nagendra said that the rally will adopt several resolutions against the Government, for its failure to address farmer issues, despite numerous representations, protests, demonstrations and rallies.

Listing out the demands of farmers, Nagendra said that the demands include redressal of problems of sugarcane growers, a blanket ban on mining activities in 20 km radius of KRS dam, dropping of plans for metering of IP sets, withdrawal of GST on packed agri products, payment of  scientific compensation to farmers who lost crops in recent floods and other natural calamities, farm loan waiver, issuance of tilling rights to Bagar Hukum farmers etc.

Questioning the Government’s decision to celebrate Dasara in a grand manner at a time when rains is causing havoc, he urged the Government to keep Dasara simple and use the money for relief and rehabilitation works.

Setting a one-week deadline for the Government to address the farmer demands, Nagendra warned that roads leading to Mysuru city in all the four directions will be blocked on Vijayadashami Day (Oct. 5) if their demands are not met by then. The farmers will bring along their cattle and bullock carts in hordes to block the Highway roads, he added.
