Chamarajanagar: The Election Commission of India is going all out to bring the maximum number of voters to the polling booths during this Lok Sabha election. One of the novel ways in which this was brought to the public attention was when school and college students came together in a cultural programme and fashion show.
The District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, District SVEEP Committee, Department of PU Education, Handloom and Textile Department and State Pollution Control Board had jointly organised the programme in which ZP CEO K.S. Latha Kumari inaugurated the event by applying ink on the finger of a drawing on a plaque.
The District SVEEP Committee is organising special programmes including Fashion Show to create voter awareness. This is being done to draw the attention of youth and also increase voter turnout, said one of the Committee members.
The models wore silk sarees, which carried the four logos of the EC and sashayed on the ramp, which evoked loud cheers among the public. The models canvassed the message of voting through the fabrics that they were displaying.
The students who had come from schools and colleges from different parts of the district participated in plays and songs and spread the message of voting. Deputy Director of PU Education Shyamala, Dr. K.H. Prasad, Nayeem and officials of the Department of Ecology and Environment were present.
