Mysore/Mysuru: A 73-year-old CEO based in Mysuru was battling persistent knee pain for almost three years and the pain was slowly chipping away at the ease and independence of his active lifestyle. Even walking short distances was a challenge and discomfort increasingly limited daily living. He tried everything, but the pain continued to worsen.

When he approached Manipal Hospitals in Mysuru, a detailed imaging revealed severe osteoarthritis affecting only the inner compartment of his knee. The challenge was not just to relieve his pain, but to help him return quickly to the life he valued, while preserving as much of his natural knee as possible.

The team performed the procedure under the guidance of Dr. Bogadi Prashanth, Joint Replacement Surgeon at Manipal Hospital in city. Instead of a total knee replacement, the robotic-assisted partial knee replacement was targeted to the damaged portion of the knee with millimetre-level precision. This enabled the surgical team to preserve the patient’s healthy bone, ligaments and natural knee movement. The implant was placed with remarkable accuracy using real-time 3D guidance, enhancing alignment and overall function.

The patient was mobilised with minimal pain and discomfort, within six hours of surgery and was discharged soon after the procedure. Robotic-assisted techniques require smaller incisions, cause less tissue damage, result in less blood loss, faster rehabilitation and shorter hospital stays than conventional surgery.
