Five held for stealing power cables from under construction layout

Four cable bundles weighing 281 kgs, goods vehicle, Rs. 2.47 lakh cash recovered

Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru District Police have arrested five persons on charges of stealing Aluminium Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR) power cables from an under construction residential layout near Beerihundi village in the taluk.

The Police have recovered five bundles of ACSR cables weighing 281 kgs and Rs. 2.47 lakh cash besides seizing a goods vehicle.

Those arrested are 58-year-old S.C. Chikkanachaari of Kalikamba Road in Saragur, 48-year-old Chandra, 38-year-old Arif, 63-year-old Shivaiah and 32-year-old H.R. Ravi, residents of Channayyanakote village in Virajpet taluk of Kodagu district.

Details: One Vrushabendra Swamy of Shettanayakanahalli village in Yelwal Hobli of Mysuru taluk was developing a layout in a two-acre land near Beerihundi village in the taluk. He had  stocked bundles of ACSR power cables to draw electricity to the new layout. The accused had stolen five cable bundles .

Following the theft, Vrushabhendra Swamy had lodged a complaint at Jayapura  Police Station.

The Police, who took up the investigation, received a tip off from the public following which Investigating Officer Sub-Inspector Satish and staff intensified        the investigation.

On May 8, when the Cops were on vehicle inspection near Harohalli Gate, they intercepted a goods vehicle. Upon inspection,  the Police found four ACSR Cable bundles inside the vehicle and took the accused into custody for questioning. During interrogation, the Police came to know that the accused had stolen the cables. Following their arrest, Police have solved one case each registered at Jayapura and Varuna  Police Stations.

SP Mallikarjun Baladandi, Additional SPs C. Mallik and L. Nagesh guided a team of Police led by Mysuru Rural Sub-Division Dy.SP Rajanna, including Jayapura Sub-Inspector Prakash Yethinamani and staff Abdul Lathif, N.A. Ashok, Bhaskar, Pachchegowda, Ninganna and Dilip in cracking                                                   the theft case.
