This year’s Dasara festival is set to dazzle Mysureans with a double delight: The much anticipated Fruit and Flower Show at Kuppanna Park in city centre and at Lingambudhi Lake in Srirampura.

For the first time, this vibrant flower show will be held at newly established Botanical Garden, designed in the enchanting style of Ooty Botanical Gardens, nestled in the scenic surroundings of Lingambudhi Lake.

Spanning 15 acres, the Botanical Garden at Lingambudhi Lake is a sanctuary of biodiversity, showcasing a wide variety of plant species while preserving the native flora along the Lake’s edge.

Organically developed place

This organically developed garden is poised to become a worthy alternative to the renowned Lalbagh Botanical Garden in Bengaluru and the iconic Botanical Garden in Ooty. Within this verdant expanse, an impressive collection of 300 species of plants and trees has been cultivated, encompassing both native and endangered varieties.

Among the 26 varieties of native trees are neem, banyan, peepal, albizia, large-flowered magnolia, Krishna siris, black varnish tree, karen wood, marking nut tree, hiptage, weeping bottlebrush, red bottlebrush and orange trumpet vine.

Significant efforts are also underway to conserve endangered species, including albizia, bael, bilva, and red sandalwood (red sanders). Additionally, exotic species such as agathis, robusta, schizolobium, parahyba, brachychiton, and adansonia add to the garden’s rich tapestry of flora.

At the fruit and flower show, visitors can expect an extraordinary display of nature’s beauty, making this Dasara celebration one to remember.

Over the past year, Mysuru’s Botanical Garden has captivated visitors with its enchanting beauty. A standout feature, the Topiary Garden, showcases plants shaped into intricate forms, highlighting the garden’s rich collection of valuable flora.

25,000 pots

From Oct. 3 to Oct. 13, Lingambudhi Botanical Garden will host a spectacular flower show, featuring over 25,000 flower pots from 35 diverse varieties.

The vibrant array of flowering plants is sure to draw the attention of spectators. Attendees can expect to see a dazzling display of species, including marigold, zinnia, cockscomb, celosia, poinsettia, calla lily, begonia, chrysanthemum, dahlia, helichrysum, torenia, salvia, cosmos, petunia, impatiens, kalanchoe, hibiscus, anthuriums, coleus, spider plant, antirrhinum, dianthus, and aster, all meticulously cultivated for this event.

A haven for nature lovers

In addition to the flower show, the Botanical Garden is expanding with several themed gardens to delight tourists and plant enthusiasts alike. These include a medicinal plants garden, aromatic garden, rose garden, topiary garden, butterfly park, bamboo block, rockery, arboretum, fragrance block, palmetum, minor fruits block, and well-maintained water pools. An aqua birds park is also in the works, enhancing the garden’s appeal.

With its stunning displays and diverse offerings, the Botanical Garden promises an unforgettable experience for all who visit during this vibrant celebration.

Pergola retreat

A magnificent pergola, measuring 150 feet in length and 12 feet in width, has been constructed at the Botanical Garden. This structure offers a pleasant environment for tourists visiting the garden. Adorned with red jade vine, the pergola bursts into vibrant red blooms  twice a year, further enhancing the garden’s beauty.

A historical gem

Lingambudhi Lake, developed during the reign of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar of the erstwhile Mysore State, was constructed in 1828 in memory of Maharani Krishnavilasa Lingajammanni.

Spanning an impressive 250 acres, the lake comprises 51.3 acres in Survey No. 23 of Lingambudhi, 136.11 acres in Survey No. 82 of Dattagalli, and 28.23 acres in Survey No. 11 of Ayyajjayyanahundi.

Of the total area, 150 acres are covered with water, while the remaining 100 acres have                             been designated as a reserved forest area, preserving the natural ecosystem.

Timings and entry fee

The flower show at Lingambudhi Botanical Garden will conclude on Oct. 13 at 7 pm. Visitors can explore the vibrant displays daily from 9 am to 7 pm from tomorrow. Ticket prices are set at Rs. 30 for children aged 6 to 12 years, Rs. 60 for adults, Rs. 50 for still cameras and Rs. 100 for video cameras.
