Mysore/Mysuru: Machineries and raw materials worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed in a fire mishap at a foam manufacturing unit at Kadakola Industrial Area in Nanjangud taluk yesterday.
The fire mishap took place at ‘Meera Shree’ foam manufacturing unit and it is learnt that machineries and raw materials worth about Rs. 50 lakh have been destroyed in the fire.
Fire is said to have broke out at about 4.30 pm yesterday when five workers were busy at work inside the unit. Passersby who noticed thick smoke emanating from the factory, immediately informed the staff to come out. As soon as the workers rushed outside, fire engulfed the factory with thick smoke coming from it causing tensed moments.
Meanwhile, public informed the Fire Station and Fire & Emergency Services personnel, who rushed to the spot, managed to bring the fire under control and prevented it from spreading further, thus averting a major fire accident.
Regional Fire Officer P. Chandan, speaking to SOM, said that as soon as they received information about the fire, five fire extinguishing vehicles from Nanjangud, Mysuru and other places were dispatched to the spot. Initially, steps were taken to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring factories.
As the intensity of fire was increasing, fire extinguishing vehicles from the nearby TVS and Asian Paints factories were summoned to the spot and the fire was doused in a two-hour-long operation, he said and added that foam and other items have been destroyed in the fire and luckily no loss of life took place.
Station Officers Lakshmikanth Yadav and Cheluvaraju, District Fire Officer K.C. Ramesh, Gururaj and staff took part in the fire extinguishing operation.
