Foundation Day at AnSI tomorrow

Mysuru: Anthropological Survey of India (AnSI), Ministry of Culture, Government of India, will be celebrating its 80th Foundation Day at its Southern Regional Centre in Bogadi, Mysuru, tomorrow (Dec. 2) from 11.30 am onwards.

Prof. P.K. Mishra, former Professor, North Eastern Hill University, Shillong and Prof. C.G. Hussain Khan, former Chairman, DoS in Anthropology & former Syndicate Member, Karnatak University, Dharwad, will be the chief guests.

Dr. Harashawaradhana, Deputy Director and Head of Office, AnSI, Mysuru, said that an Exhibition of Museum artefacts is organised as part of the event.

Cultural performances have been arranged from 3 pm onwards by distinguished artistes from Mysuru — Kathak (Lucknow Gharana) by Mitali Ghosh and her disciples from Jhankar Nritya Sikshayatan; ‘Nritya Namana’ – Bharatanatyam by Vidu. Arathi Arun and her disciples from Shri Ganesha Sangeetha Nrithyalaya. Also there will be singing and dance performances by in-house artistes.

AnSI was established in 1945 with Dr. Biraja Sankar Guha as Director and Verrier Elwin as Dy. Director. AnSI holds a unique position as the sole research organisation dedicated to anthropological studies within a Governmental framework.

Embarking on its motto,  sourced from a verse in Mahabharata which literally translates to ‘There is no creation higher than the human being,’ AnSI endeavours to study human being in its totality. AnSI champions a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach, encompassing both social, cultural and biological domain.
