Ramanagara DC orders strict measures to curb accidents

Ramanagara: Despite a notable reduction in accidents on the Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway, incidents continue to occur in specific areas such as Seshagirihalli in Bidadi, Hejjala Gate, Kalgopa and Hanumanthnagar.

In a bid to prevent further accidents, Ramanagara Deputy Commissioner Yeshwanth V. Gurukar has identified these locations as accident-prone zones, instructing officials to immediately implement safety measures.

Presiding over the district-level Road Safety Committee meeting yesterday at the DC’s Office, Gurukar attributed the accidents to drivers taking wrong routes and not following lane discipline.

He directed authorities to impose fines on violators at first and follow up with legal action if necessary. He also emphasised the need for strict vigilance and timely action to prevent tragedies on the roads.

Additionally, Deputy Commissioner Gurukar ordered immediate action to fill potholes on district roads to prevent accidents or fatalities.

“All potholes must be repaired without delay and under no circumstances should negligence lead to accidents or loss of life,” he instructed.

He also called for the restoration of damaged safety measures on the Mysuru-Bengaluru highway to ensure no further accidents occur.

It is worth mentioning here that Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari told the Parliament last year that Agara Cross under Kaggalipura Police Station of Ramanagara district has been identified as the most dangerous spot.

From 2016 to 2018, 37 people were victims of road accidents at this place. There is another dangerous accident spot near the same Kaggalipura Police Station. 23 people died in road accidents in Lakshmipura Temple Road in last two years. Mayaganahalli in Ramanagara has also been identified as a dangerous spot.
