Mysuru: A retired Judge will be the full-time Legal Advisor to the University of Mysore and advertisements in newspapers will be inserted to select the best. This decision was taken at Special Syndicate meeting, held here on July 7.
All these years there was no full-time Legal Advisor and the University was depending on a person who was a legal eagle when it came to education issues but who was not qualified.
It is said that he would draft letters very well and many Vice-Chancellors in the past would depend on his legal acumen and drafting skills. Apart from this, there are a few advocates who have been fighting legal cases concerned with the University.
However, this is the first time that a decision has been taken to appoint a full-time Legal Advisor to the University, said a source, speaking to Star of Mysore on condition of anonymity.
Another decision that was taken was to send back an official from the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) who had come to the University with a letter from the Government to take charge as the Finance Officer of the University.
The Syndicate members felt it was not right to replace the present Officer with a person who has been posted to the sensitive post of a Finance Officer, as a punishment transfer. Hence, his posting was rejected by the Syndicate, said the source.
