Gandhi-150: Musical tribute to Mahatma at Ganabharathi

Mysuru/Mysore: Ganabharathi is organising Gandhi-150, a special Karnatak vocal concert by Vidwan Manasa Nayana, based on the poems on Mahatma Gandhi composed by different poets. The programme will be held at Veene Seshanna Bhavan on Adichunchanagiri Road here on Jan. 30 at 6 pm. 

Vidwan Manasa Nayana will be accompanied by Vidushi Nalina Mohan on violin, Vidwan Sai Shivu Lakshmi Keshav on mridanga and Vidwan N.S. Narayanamurthy on ghata.

Artistes’ Profiles: Vidwan Manasa Nayana was initiated into music by Vidushi S.K. Vasumathi and he also trained under Vidwan Vairamangalam Lakshminarayana. But it was Sangeetha Kalanidhi Dr. R. K. Srikanthan, who was decisive in shaping his career in music. Currently, he is under the tutelage of Sangeetha Kalanidhi R. Vedavalli. Vidushi Pushpa Srinivasan and Sangeetha Kalanidhi Chitravina N. Ravikiran have also helped him in acquiring various nuances of music.

A first rank holder in Vidwath examination, he has won many scholarships like CCRT, awards and prizes including the National-level competition conducted by the All India Radio. He has performed at various sabhas and festivals across the country including Nada Inbam, Thyagaraja Vidwath Samajam, Nalinakanti (Chennai), Ananya, Malleshwaram Sangeetha Sabha, Praharshini. He has  presented many lecture demonstrations and thematic concerts on various platforms. He is known for presenting exclusive concerts based on the poems of Kannada poets. As an organiser, he has played a pivotal role in Yuva Dhwani and Ganabharathi.

Vidushi Nalina Mohan is a noted violinist from Karnataka. She is the  disciple of Vidwan R. R. Keshavamurthy and late Vidwan Anoor Ramakrishna. She  has accompanied several reputed present-day artistes. She also has several cassettes to her credit.

Vidwan Sai Shivu Lakshmi Keshav is a disciple of Vidwan Karaikudi Mani. Sai Shivu is now a leading young percussionist, and has accompanied many young and senior artistes at various concerts.

Vidwan N.S. Narayanamurthy is a senior ghata player and has accompanied many senior artistes at different concerts.
