Girl hostage case: Cop arrested for helping accused

June 19, 2019

Mysuru: Kuvempunagar Police have arrested a Traffic Police Constable attached to K.R. Traffic Police Station for not alerting his higher authorities despite knowing that the 15-year-old girl, whose father had failed to repay a loan, was held hostage and had been forced into prostitution.

The arrested Constable is Mahesh, who has been interrogated. It is alleged that the prime accused in the case Padma and Prasanna Kumar had lent money to the girl’s father for exorbitant rate of interest. As the girl’s father could not repay the loan, the girl was held hostage for around six months and was allegedly forced into prostitution.

While the Police Constable was arrested on Monday night, the other two accused were arrested earlier. The girl’s grandfather, with the help of an NGO, had lodged a complaint at Kuvempunagar Police Station following which a case was registered and the arrests made.
