Mysuru: Grand Master M.S. Thejkumar has been appointed as mentor and head coach of Great Minds Chess Academy (GMCA) which is set to inaugurate its new offline training centre in Saraswathipuram on May 23.
Addressing the media persons at Pathrakarthara Bhavan here recently, Thejkumar announced that the Academy will offer structured coaching programmes tailored to all skill levels — beginner, intermediate and advanced.
“The Academy will remain open throughout the day and all training modules have been personally designed by me to ensure high-quality, personalised instruction. This is part of my effort to give back to society and support budding chess players with professional coaching,” he said.
Highlighting the growing prominence of Mysuru in the chess, Thejkumar noted, “Earlier, Bengaluru used to dominate the chess landscape, but now Mysuru is making its mark at both state and national levels.” He also drew comparisons with other southern states, stating, “In Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, many young talents dedicate themselves full-time to chess, which is why they are excelling nationally and internationally. We aim to create a similar ecosystem here at GMCA for those willing to commit fully to the sport.”
Thejkumar also expressed the Academy’s willingness to collaborate with Government institutions to nurture young talents.
Jayashree from GMCA was also present at the press briefing. For further details, contact Mob: 86602-30481.
