Governor flags off Nursing team to Himalayas

May 6, 2023

Mysore/Mysuru: Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot flagged off the Vision-2023, an exclusive expedition for the nursing fraternity of Karnataka, organised by Tiger Adventure Foundation (TAF) in association with Diya Foundation and Ladies Circle India, on May 3 at Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor wished the team a happy and safe adventure and congratulated the organisers for the gesture.

The nursing section of the medical field gets the last appreciation for the selfless service rendered and this event has been planned as a token of gratitude to the nursing community. The year 2023, incidentally, marks the 203rd birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the 70th year of the first ascent to Mount Everest and completion of 75 years of India’s Independence.

It is a happy coincidence that the TAF is going to celebrate the success stories of nurses in the Himalayas by ascending Mt. Chandrakhani Pass and Mt. Rumtu top which is at a height of 14,000 ft., in Himachal Pradesh.

The expedition will be held between May 5 and 18, 2023 and the team is expected to summit on May 12. It will be a historic day when a team of twelve nurses from Karnataka celebrates the ‘International Day of Nurses’ on the Himalayan range at an altitude of 14,000 feet. The team left for Delhi yesterday (May 5) and will travel further to Himachal Pradesh.

The team will report at Chheti Base camp and is likely to stay at various camps like Kashadra, Maticochher, Dohra, Chaklani and Sterlin. The nurses are expected to visit New Delhi, Amritsar and Manali too.

The cost of project is about Rs. 8 lakh which is raised through crowd-funding and partnered with Ladies Circle India and Diya Foundation.

The programme is coordinated by R. Santosh, Hon. Secretary of TAF, Cr. Anchal Khurana of Ladies Circle India and Namratha Shenoy, Founder-Trustee of Diya Foundation.

At Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru, Dr. Shalini Rajneesh Goel, Additional Chief Secretary, Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, also wished the team by signing on the expedition flag.

S. Ravi, ADGP and Principal Secretary, Home Department, Government of Karnataka, also joined the occasion.
