Govt. nod sought to start two more Covid treatment centres in Mysuru city

April 26, 2021

Mysore/Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rohini Sindhuri has written to the State Government seeking permission to add 300 beds at Trauma Care Centre to take the tally to 700 beds and another 300 beds at Super Specialty Hospital with 20,000 litres capacity oxygen unit to deal with the current COVID-19 pandemic.

In a letter to T.K. Anil Kumar, Principal Secretary, Medical Education Department, she has said that the number of COVID  positive cases is increasing and causing additional burden on the existing treatment centres. In view of this, there is a dire need to start Covid treatment at the Super Speciality Hospital and PKTB Hospital. This required the Government’s permission.

At present, the district has 5,040 active cases. The current COVID treatment centres were not sufficient for local patients, as COVID  positive patients were coming from other districts including Bengaluru city, which  resulted in increase in the number of COVID-19 patients in the district, she added.

In the wake of grim situation, she has appealed to the Government to increase the oxygenated beds in all the Hospitals in city, besides opening of new COVID treatment centres along with increase in the medical staff. If covid treatment was started in Super Speciality Hospital, then they need to set up 20,000 litre capacity oxygen generating unit in the Hospital. Till then, the Government must permit the District Administration to make use of 20 Dura oxygen cylinders.

Contents of the letter

* Permission to set up 250 oxygenated beds and 50 ICU at Super Speciality Hospital which lacked facilities to treat covid patients.

* Permission required to start a unit to generate 20,000 litres oxygen. Required medical equipment for hospital.
