Bengaluru: “From next year onwards, the State Government will organise the birth anniversary celebrations of Sir M. Visvesvaraya (MV) at all District centres of the State,” said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday.
He was speaking after offering floral tributes to the bust of Sir MV at a function jointly organised by the Karnataka Engineering Seva Sangha and Karnataka Engineers Association.
“We celebrate Sir MV’s birthday as Engineer’s Day. This year the Union Government has asked all State Governments to organise Engineer’s Day. But we are already celebrating Engineer’s Day in Karnataka,” said the CM.
Sir M. Visvesvaraya is the most distinguished son of Karnataka and he is always a source of inspiration to us.
In a life span of over 100 years, he implemented various schemes for the development of the State and for the welfare of the people of Karnataka. It is rare to see a man of such knowledge and commitment.
He was a real patriot. MV didn’t build just roads and dams. He set up big industries like Paper Mill, Cement, Iron and Steel factories under the patronage of the Mysore Maharaja. His contribution to Power sector is enormous and by building KRS Dam he has given life to the people,” concluded Bommai.
