GP members to take out rally in city tomorrow

July 30, 2022

Mysore/Mysuru: Seeking fulfilment of their demands, Gram Panchayat (GP) members from across the State will take out a rally in city tomorrow (July 31).

Announcing this at a press meet in city recently, Karnataka GP Members Federation Mysuru District President Nagaraj Yadunadu said that GP members have been facing certain problems for the past several years.

Alleging that the Government of late is making attempts to curb the powers of GP members and also cut short grants, he said that in this backdrop, the GP members will take out a massive rally in city to draw the attention of the Government to their problems and fulfilment of demands.

“The rally will commence from the Town Hall at 10 am on July 31 and will culminate at Dasara Exhibition Grounds, where a convention will take place, which will be inaugurated by the Federation’s State President Satish Kadashettihalli. MLCs Dr. D. Thimmaiah, C.N. Manjegowda and others will take part as guests,” Nagaraj said adding that about 3,000 GP members of the State are expected to take part in the rally.

Nagaraj further said that the demands include hike in honorarium to GP Presidents, Vice-Presidents and members, issuance of free bus pass, insurance coverage, pension benefits etc. He also urged the Government to declare GPs as Local-Self Governments.

Federation office-bearers Rangaswamy G. Maralli, Manjunath, B. Mahadev, Gurumurthy, Devaraju and Shivakumar were present at the press meet.
