Green Property Tag

June 22, 2026

Coming soon…

Mysuru: In a bid to promote eco-friendly practices among citizens, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) is considering the introduction of a ‘Green Property Tag’ for buildings that adopt sustainable measures.

Amid growing concerns over climate change and erratic weather patterns linked to global warming, the MCC plans to encourage the adoption of environmentally responsible practices, such as rainwater harvesting, solar energy utilisation, solid waste management and energy-efficient building systems.

With Mysuru witnessing rapid urban growth and emerging as a preferred destination for people seeking a better quality of life, the Civic Body aims to incentivise green initiatives by recognising environmentally conscious properties with a distinct ‘Green Property Tag.’

Incentive for green  initiative

The proposed initiative is intended not only to promote environmental conservation but also to serve as a benchmark for assessing property quality and value while contributing to sustainable urban development.

The Green Property Tag is expected to cover residential and commercial buildings, educational institutions, apartment complexes and other establishments that incorporate mandatory eco-friendly features.

Such green buildings reduce dependence on conventional energy sources. Rainwater harvesting systems, in particular, can help recharge groundwater levels, mitigate water scarcity and reduce the burden on Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW), the MCC’s water supply wing.

The Civic Body believes that green-certified properties could command higher market value, as they offer better ventilation, greater access to natural light and improved indoor air quality, thereby promoting healthier living conditions.

The initiative could also help MCC reduce expenditure on waste management. Households seeking the tag will be required to segregate waste at source, process organic waste into compost, conserve & reuse water and take measures to protect and enhance green cover.
