Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep performed ground-breaking ceremony on Sunday last (June 11) to build a toilet facility at Mysore Palace premises.

It is an initiative of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Automotive Axles Ltd., in partnership with District Administration. They had jointly built India’s first green building for public convenience (Toilet ) at a cost of nearly Rs. One crore atop Chamundi Hill.

“The response for the green toilet which is constructed at Chamundi Hill is really good. On the same lines with the CSR fund we have given permission to take up such facilities at Mysore Palace. Some of the tourists even complained about existing toilet facility. Hence, the proposed toilet facility at most visited tourist place in Mysuru will be helpful for the tourists,”  said Randeep.

“After Mysuru was awarded ‘Cleanest city’ tag for the first time, we decided to do something for Mysuru. The new facility will have separate toilet facilities for both men and women and also exclusive toilet facility for physically-challenged which was not there in the existing toilet facility at the Palace premise. The new toilet facility will be inaugurated on December 1,” said Dr. N. Muthukumar, Immediate Past Chairman, CII, Mysuru.

“It’s something public will greatly benefit from, Mysore Palace being among highest visited place in the country. In 2014 we have overtaken Taj Mahal as the most visited tourist destination in India. If we do not have proper civic amenity it is not good, so we are creating a green building with energy efficiency. Next, we have planned to come out with such facility in Nanjundeshwara Temple in Nanjangud and even at KRS,” said Arjun Ranga, Chairman, CII, Mysuru.

V. Mouli, Head, CII Mysuru, said that they were working towards making Mysuru the first tourist-friendly destination in India and added that all these projects are part of Swachh Bharat initiative.

Salient features of green toilet: The facility includes 10 Indian toilets and five western toilets for ladies, nine Indian and two western toilets for gents, apart from 14 urinals for adults and two for children, one EWC facility for physically-challenged and facility for childcare. The toilet will be designed for scientific air flow, while the urinals will be equipped with biological and chemical cleaner. The hand wash system will be sensor-based and there will also be a rain water harvesting system installed.

There will be facility for RO drinking water with a capacity of 200 LPH and to conserve water, there will be low flow fitting.

LED lighting will be fixed for energy conservation, pressurised water pumping system for flushing, polycarbonate sheet for roof to save power during day light and 5KW roof top solar system will be installed.
