Residents hold meeting; resolve to plant over 2,000 saplings to enhance green cover

Mysuru, June 4 (PM&BS)- Ahead of World Environment Day slated for tomorrow (June 5), the residents of Yadavagiri have resolved to plant over 2,000 saplings and nurture them.
This was decided at a meeting of Yadavagiri residents convened at a park in the locality recently, under the Chairmanship of Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) Working President S.K. Dinesh. Over 80 residents of the locality attended the meeting.
Several other issues related to the locality were also discussed at the meeting.
The residents endorsed the proposal that was tabled to plant the saplings in open places within the locality, to further enhance the green cover. Sanjay Dattatri was named as the Coordinator of Tree Project and Ajit and Thammanna to coordinate with Dattatri.
During the meeting, a fruitful discussion on the maintenance of peepal trees in front of the houses was also held, following which, some advised to cut the roots by taking precautionary measures from affecting the structures.
MCC Health Inspector Harish Devaraj, who also took part in the meeting, sought the cooperation of the residents in maintaining cleanliness. He informed that, the practice of imposing spot fine on those littering waste in public places has helped in bringing down the habit of throwing waste in public.
It was brought to the notice of the MCC Health Inspector about uncontrolled disposal of waste near Anand Vihar. The MCC official, in his reply requested the residents to give thermocol-like waste articles to garbage collectors, to prevent the incidents of setting them on fire in public places. He assured action against disposing used furniture like sofa, beds and commodes on footpaths. Waste will be collected from the parks in the locality too, he added.
The residents decided to complain to the Police about unabated noise pollution by playing loud music and bursting fire crackers in public. Another complaint will be lodged with Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW) officials to chalk out permanent solution to check incidents of sewage overflow from manholes during rain.
To encourage the participation of more residents in the next meeting, a decision was taken to organise lunch on June 15 and host a music programme by locality artistes. Dr. Rajeshwar, gave his consent to head the Food Committee.
