‘Greeshma Rangothsava’ at Rangayana from today

Mysuru: ‘Greeshma Rangothsava,’ organised by Rangayana in memory of Senior Theatre Artiste and Director S. Malathi, who passed away recently, will commence from this evening at Bhoomigeeta in Rangayana premises here.

Disclosing this at a press meet held at Rangayana premises here yesterday, Rangayana Joint Director V.S. Mallikarjunaswamy, after releasing the poster of the event, said that ‘Greeshma Rangothsava’ would feature seven plays staged every Sunday at 6.30 pm from today till June 23.

The event is aimed to encourage amateur theatre groups and is being organised every year. The play ‘Swapna Saraswathi’, adapted to theatre by late S. Malathi, will also be staged during the event, he explained.

The line-up of play is as follows:

May 19: ‘Maayabete’ by Drishya Kavya troupe, Bengaluru.

May 26: ‘Buddhayana’ by Charvaka Trust artistes, Mysuru. (The original 6-hour play on Buddha’s life condensed to two-and-half hours)

June 2: ‘Santhimmiya Love Purana’ produced by D. Saraswathi ‘Koudhi’ and a solo play ‘Koudi.’

June 9: ‘Rathayathre’ by Sumanasa Kodavuru troupe, Udupi.

June 16: ‘Jalagara’ by Saranga Ranga troupe, Kolar.

June 22: ‘Mahimapura’ by Janadhani Samskruthika Trust, Mandya.

June 23: ‘Swapna Saaraswatha’ by Nata Mithraru, Theerthahalli.

Tickets are priced at Rs. 50. Theatre Director H.S. Umesh would inaugurate the event at 6 pm today at Bhoomigeeta. Director K.R. Sumathi would be the chief guest, added Mallikarjunaswamy.
