Guest lecturers begin indefinite stir

March 19, 2017

Seeking fulfilment of their demands, guest lecturers from across the State, under the joint banner of Government Degree College Guest Lecturers State Co-ordination Committee, Bengaluru and Guest Lecturers Welfare Association, Mysuru, have begun an indefinite stir at Freedom Park in Bengaluru from Mar.17.

The guest lecturers have abstained from work to take part in the stir. Taking objection to Higher Education Minister’s statement in the Assembly on Friday that Guest lecturers were being paid more than UGC guidelines, the lecturers claimed that they were getting only Rs. 360 per hour of teaching as against the UGC recommendation of Rs. 1000 per hour. Also, they were paid a salary of Rs. 11,500 for 32 hours of teaching in a month, while the UGC’s recommendation was Rs. 25,000 for the same duration of work, they said and urged all guest lectures from Mandya, Mysuru, Hassan and Chamarajanagar districts to boycott work and join the stir.
