Guest lecturers stage demonstration against discrimination in appointment

September 9, 2025

Mysore/Mysuru:  Guest lecturers, under the banner of State Government Degree College Guest Lecturers Co-ordination Committee, staged a demonstration in front of the DC Office here yesterday, demanding an end to discrimination between UGC and non-UGC qualification in appointments and to address the crisis regarding guest lecturers serving in the academic year 2025-26 at the Government-level itself.

They said, more than 15,000 guest lecturers are serving in 432 Government Degree Colleges in the State for the past several years, out of which 5,623 are UGC qualified and 5,353 non-UGC qualified. Pointing out that most of them have M.Phil qualification, they said that though they are not UGC qualified, they are imparting quality education to students out of their experience and skills, they maintained.

Contending that the guest lecturers are not getting due benefits and facilities, they said that 70 percent of the Government Colleges are dependent on the service of guest lecturers. Now with the crisis brewing due to discrimination between UGC and non-UGC qualification, which has badly hit classes in colleges,  the Government should intervene and solve the crisis, they urged.

Committee State President Somashekar Shimoggi, office-bearers Diwakar, Rajesh Kumar, B.S. Nagaraj, M. Sudarshan, Krishnamurthy, N. Sharath, Ajit Kumar and others were present.
