Mysuru: The ten-day exhibition-cum-sale of handicrafts organised at the JSS Urban Haat, Hebbal, from May 17 to 26 was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner G. Anuradha, yesterday.
The Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Government of India (GoI), Ministry of Textiles, GoI, is sponsoring this exhibition. Artisans from across the country including National and State awardees are exhibiting and selling their attractive traditional and heritage artefacts at this exhibition which is open from 10 am to 9 pm.
Speaking after inaugurating the exhibition, Anuradha said that in this exhibition, artists from different parts of the country are participating and hence tourists and visitors must encourage them by buying their products.
JSS Mahvidhyapeetha Executive Secretary Dr. C.G. Betsurmath said that apart from artists from different districts in Karnataka, artisans from Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh were also participating.
In the exhibition-cum-sale mela, the following items will be available— Soft, Kashmir shawls, Kashidkari, embroidery dresses and ornaments, Odisha’s Dogra carvings, Punjabi Phulkari/Patiyala Suits, Bhagalpur Tassar Silk sarees/duppatta, Bastar Iron Craft from Madhya Pradesh, Horn Products, Grass Mats/ Curtains, Jaipur Kurthas & Raprons, Kanjivaram Silk Sarees, Ilakal Kasuthi and Molakalmur sarees of Karnataka, Jute bags, Tassur silk sarees, Kantha stitch sarees, Banaras sarees and Dress Materials, Boutique sarees and Dress, Bengali Cotton sarees, Kashmir Handlooms, Wood Carving and furniture from Saharanpur, Wood Inlay, Chicken Embroidery, Modern Arts Murals ceramic, Madhubani Painting, Rajasthan Miniature Paintings, Rajasthan Embroidery & footwear, Gujarat Dress, all kinds of Leather and Jute products, Vegetable print Dress Materials, Imitation Jewellery, Gem Stone Jewellery, Marble Painting, Karnataka Silk Sarees and Channapattana Toys, all kinds of Terracotta items and Handloom items.
