Mysuru : The District Administration which seems to have learnt lessons from the incidents of alleged harassment meted out to girls and women by unruly elements at the Open Street Festival held as part of last Dasara has now  decided to deploy additional Police security at Krishnaraja Boulevard, the venue of Chitra Santhe and Hasiru Santhe, organised as part of Winter Festival on Dec. 30.

Addressing reporters at his office this morning, Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G. Sankar said that for the festival, more than 200 Police personnel will be deployed to check law and order. Besides, over 60 CCTV cameras will be installed along the stretch from Mahatma Gandhi Statue to Oriental Research Institute on that day.

The DC said that the Winter Festival has been receiving overwhelming response. A large number of visitors from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and other parts of the country are flooding to witness Flower Show at Mysore Palace, Chamundi Hill, Mysuru Zoo, Children’s Film Festival and other programmes.

As many as 50 Organic Farmer Federations from Mandya, Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts have registered their names to take part in the Hasiru Santhe. They will display a wide range of products like millets-based food, snacks and chats produced from organic food crops, herbal juices, indigenous seeds, leafy vegetables, fruits, jaggery sweets and other products.

Over 80 painters and artists from Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts, Raja Ravi Verma and Kalaniketan Schools will exhibit rare paintings and drawing works.

There will be no dance and cultural programmes at the venue, he clarified. Both events will be held from 9 am till 5 pm. The DC said that all security arrangements have been made to prevent any untoward incidents during New Year celebrations.  

Joint Director of Agriculture P. Mahantheshappa, Assistant Director of Information R. Raju and Deputy Director of Tourism H.P. Janardhan were present.
