Mysuru: A week after South West Monsoon entered the State, scattered heavy rains was received in the city yesterday evening.

The downpour brought some respite from scorching heat but it also exposed an evil deed.

The heavy downpour brought along with it gush of water pressure into the drain systems in city and a four-month-old female foetus was pushed out of an overflowing drain and was found on Bada Makan Main Road in city last night.

Residents of the area, who saw the foetus, panicked and immediately informed the jurisdictional Narasimharaja (NR) Police. The Police rushed to the spot and shifted the foetus to MMC&RI (Mysore Medical College and Research Institute) mortuary for post-mortem.

The Police suspect that the foetus may have been dumped following a miscarriage or disposed in the drain after an illegal abortion. They said that the real fact would be known only after receiving the post-mortem report and added that the foetus was likely disposed in the drain about five days ago. N.R. Police have registered a case in this regard.

Rainfall yesterday

While a few localities received heavy rainfall yesterday, the intensity was mild in other areas across the city. According to Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) in the last 24 hours, Mysuru city has received 31 mm to 41 mm of rainfall. Other places around the city like Siddalingapura received 49 mm rain, Rammanhalli 41 mm, Alanahalli 31 mm and  Hanchya 28.5 mm rainfall.

Heavy rains also lashed Bogadi, Ramakrishnanagar, Hebbal and surrounding areas. Rain water flooded the roads around K.R. Circle and Chamaraja Circle. In Metagalli, huge tree branches fell across the roads which were cleared by MCC’s Abhaya team.
