‘Hejje-Gejje’ National Dance Festival held

Mysuru:  An amazing ‘Shiva Tandava’ performance, felicitation to achievers, students displaying their talents, were the highlights of 27th ‘Hejje-Gejje’ National Dance Festival organised by Sri Nimishamba Dance Promoters at Kalamandira here recently.

More than 200 artistes presenting ‘Shiva Tandava’ dance mesmerised the audience present at the venue.

Earlier, ‘Kannada Ratna’ award was conferred on Actress Girija Lokesh and Guru Mysore B. Nagaraj of Articulate Trust for Arts, Bengaluru while ‘Hejje Gejje Nritya Ratna’ award was presented to Central Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar recipients Dr. Vasanth Kiran of Bharata Kalagrama, Natya Gurukula, Kolar and Dr. Laxminarayan Jena of Articulate Dance Studios.

Also, ‘Hejje Gejje’ award was presented to Vid. Nidhaga Karunad & Vidu. Rachana Karanik couple of Sri Purandara International Trust Karunada Gurukula, Bengaluru, Vid. Nikhil Ravi Parmar of Kathak Tarana, Bengaluru and Vyshali Chandraprabhu of Jwalamala News, Mysuru.

Dr. Kamalamma of Srinivasa Maternity Home (Mysuru), art patron & veena player Revathi Kamath (Bengaluru), artiste Bhagya Ajaikumar (Mysuru) and Raju Jain of CYIENT DLM (Mysuru) were also felicitated on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, chief guest D. Surendra Kumar, National Working President, Bharatiya Jain Milan, appreciated the contributions of Sri Nimishamba Dance Promoters to fine arts for the past  27 years.

“Mysuru is not only the cultural city but a sacred land for culture where people have given special status for fine arts. There is a need to encourage fine arts besides identifying various contributions,” he added.

Art Historian Ashish Mohan Khokar, Department of Kannada and Culture Assistant Director Dr. M.D. Sudarshan, Vid. Sridhar Jain and Vidu. Soumya Sridhar Jain of Sri Nimishamba Dance Promoters and others were present on the occasion.
