Here’s Why Tolerance Is Important in a Relationship

Humans are among the most collective creatures on this planet. We tend to form societies because we hate to be alone. Yes, some of us like loneliness. If you are one of those people, then tell me how much time do you like to spend alone? Even the loneliest wolves among humankind time to time need to have someone around them. We need to talk to others, need to hear compliments. We all not only need to love but also desperately want to be loved. But love always comes at a price, like any other form of communication between two people.

When we live alone, we don’t really care about things that don’t bother us. But as soon as we begin to live together with someone (with our lover in the best variant), we start to notice that some things are annoying for us. For example, your girlfriend may hate it when you take a nap after work. But you have got used to this habit and think that this has become a part of you. But she claims that because of that she feels lonely, and you don’t spend as much time together as you could. What should you do in this case? Search for another partner? Of course not! Here is where tolerance in relationships appears.

Tolerance helps us understand that you and your partner are two different people. Yes, there are some similarities between you two, but generally, you are very different. And even if your different sides collide, then your love is still stronger. Tolerance is the tool that helps your love deal with those differences and collisions. Sometimes they are especially strong if you both like to travel. People need to be especially tolerant of each other when they go beyond their comfort zones. This usually happens when you date a girl who loves to travel.

Tolerance kills your selfishness without harming your self-esteem. The same happens to your partner. Why you should be tolerant of each other? Because you are in love! And apart from this “faulty” your or your partner’s side, there are other sides that are far better than anything else. Tolerance allows you to tell your partner that there is something you don’t like about him or her, but you are going to deal with it because you generally love him or her.

Tolerance doesn’t mean losing. Like everything else in this world, tolerance has its place in life. You must understand when you should apply it. For example, during your arguments, you must be tolerant of your partner’s point of view. But it doesn’t mean that you should agree with her. Remember, arguments are an important part of any relationship, but make sure that you are tolerant of each other. There is a simple rule: if there is an incredible contradiction between you about something, then you should never be tolerant of this contradiction, but be tolerant of your partner during your arguments about it.

Tolerance can make your life happy. Oh yes, from one point of view, it seems that tolerance can only hurt your self-esteem because “I always need to agree with my partner.” Nope. Look at this from the other point of view. If you have some “faults” too, then it will be way easier for you to live or (if possible) to deal with those problems if your partner is very tolerant. Tolerance helps to ease the pressure caused by problems.

After all, tolerance is a key to understanding, and understanding is the force that holds marriages together for decades. If you are tolerant of your partner, then you have many ways to understand him or her during your relations. And if you understand each other, then it is far easier for you to avoid problems in your relations. Thus, your love becomes strong and lasts longer. As you can see, tolerance is the force that helps you reinforce your relationships, and eventually, it will transform them into a long-lasting marriage.
