Mysuru: Veteran veena artiste and a doctor by profession Dr. S. Vijayaraghavan (1947-2025) passed away on July 28, 2025.
As a tribute to the departed artiste, musicians of Mysuru come together in collaboration with Ganabharathi, Mysuru, to offer ‘Bhavapoorna Shraddhanjali’ (Heartfelt tribute) to Dr. Vijayaraghavan tomorrow (Aug. 18) at Mysore Vasudevacharya Bhavana (Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha) on JLB Road in city at 6 pm.
Dr. S. Vijayaraghavan was formerly Dean and Faculty of Medicine, University of Mysore. He was an ‘A-Top’ artiste of All India Radio. His veena recital was broadcast in The ‘South Zone Hook Up’ and All India Radio. He was a recipient of the prestigious ‘Karnataka Kalashree’ award in 2017. He was also chosen as the President of 24th Music Conference of JSS Sangeetha Sabha and was conferred with the title ‘Sangeetha Vidyanidhi’ in 2017.
Details of the programme on Aug. 18 are as follows:
6 pm to 6.45 pm: ‘Nudi Namana,’ salutations to the departed soul — Senior musician H.K. Narasimhamurthy, Mysore Nagaraj, Neeraja Achyuta Rao and others will offer their respects to Dr. Vijayaraghavan, sharing their experiences and memories with the doctor; 6.45 pm to 8 pm: Veena concert by R.K. Padmanabha accompanied by S. Kumaraswamy on mridanga and S. Manjunath on ghata.
