HT power line: Farmers’ stir enters fourth day

January 2, 2020

Threaten to lay siege to ZP Office tomorrow

Mysuru:  Even as the indefinite stir launched by the farmers under the banner of KRRS, in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in protest against the laying of 440 KV Hiriyur-Mysuru High Tension (HT) power line over fertile lands in villages around Yelwal in the taluk, entered the fourth day today, farmers have warned of laying siege to the ZP Office here when District Minister V. Somanna arrives at the venue for chairing a KDP meeting tomorrow.

Speaking to presspersons at the protest site this morning, KRRS leader Badagalapura Nagendra urged District Minister Somanna to first visit the farmers and hear them on the dangers and damages of laying the power line over fertile lands in Yelwal Hobli. Urging the Minister to address the concerns expressed by the farmers on the power line project, Nagendra warned that hundreds of  farmers would lay siege to the ZP Office if the Minister failed to visit them at the protest venue.

Nagendra said that the KRRS has called for a ‘Grameena Karnataka Bandh’ on Jan.8 in protest against the Government’s failure to address agrarian issues. Many farmer organisations such as Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha and Farm Labour associations will take part in the Jan.8 bandh, he added.
