Mysuru: “Discipline in the Police Department is as important as Red Blood Cells in the human body. Also, it is equally important to recognise the contributions of people in the force like the DAR, Dog Squad and Finger Print experts who are hardly in the limelight, in spite of their significant contributions,” said Inspector General of Police (IGP), Southern Range, Vipul Kumar.

He was addressing the Police Officers after receiving the guard of honour given  by the probationary DCPs during the parade at the DAR (District Armed Reserve) Parade Grounds at Jyotinagar, here this morning. He said, “It is a matter of great pride to the Southern Range that it has bagged overall championship at the IG Inspection Police Duty Meet held at Bengaluru, with  18 medals.”

The Police Officers have done extremely well in the year gone by and the government has appreciated its work. “The law and order situation in Mandya district especially during the Cauvery water crisis was getting a bit out of hand. Fortunately, the Rain Gods smiled and the situation was brought under control. Hence, if one does good work even the Almighty will be on our side,” he said.

Lauding the efforts of Police Constables, Vipul Kumar said the Constables have been empowered now and the responsibility lies with them, as they have to interact with the people directly and get their feedback.

“A few ranges have Model Police Stations with a Reception and Helpline Desk, where when people come with problems, they are made to sit comfortably, offered a glass of water and guided to the right Stations. The Police are fully geared up with its active social media like Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp to interact with them directly,” the IGP said.

According to Vipul Kumar, crime control and detection is equally important and now with the advent of technology investigation and evidence collection has become very interesting and challenging. Human Rights, Women and Child protection are all major challenges facing the department in the year 2018 and only through proper reforms in the Force can these be brought about effectively, he said.

He distributed cash prize of Rs.5,000, Rs. 3,000 and   Rs. 2,000 to the first, second and third prize winners respectively.
