‘In-depth research will help in new explorations in folklore’

Mysore/Mysuru: University of Mysore Folklore Department faculty Dr. Nanjaiah Honganur said that in-depth studies will help in exploring new innovations in folklore and the recent programmes in mass media has brought a new ray of hope for youths engaged in folk arts.

He was speaking at the valedictory of folk dance training workshop organised by Kollegal’s Vishwagnani Samskrutika Kala Trust at the open air theatre in Dhvanyaloka campus on Bogadi Road here on Sunday.

Maintaining that Coastal, North Karnataka, dry region and old Mysuru region folk styles are increasingly becoming popular for their songs, Dr. Nanjaiah Honganur called upon the participants to propagate folklore by forming their own teams. Highlighting the opportunities for folk artistes in Mysuru, especially during Dasara and other festivals, he said it is happy to note that more youths are getting attracted to folk arts.

Maharaja College Sociology faculty B.S. Dinamani said that she too participated in a similar workshop 17 years ago. Recalling that she entered the folk world through a free folk training workshop held at Kalamandira, she said that she had participated in numerous folk programmes and events since then.

Dr. Shivakumar, Dr. S. Balaji, N. Saraswathi and others were present. Students from different colleges presented a folk performance on the occasion.
