Incomplete road works at Nanjangud posing severe inconvenience

May 27, 2018

Nanjangud:  With the works on concreting Rashtrapathi Road in the town remaining incomplete even after nearly six months, the people are an inconvenienced lot as the incomplete works are hindering public movement on these roads.

The developmental works on Rashtrapathi Road was taken up in a hurry a couple of months before the Assembly polls. But the contractor, for unknown reasons, has stopped the works midway, which has been causing a lot of inconvenience to pedestrians and the vehicles alike.

The road was dug up for underground drainage works and the mud excavated has been left uncleared which has resulted in huge mounds of mud piling up along the road, causing hindrance to pedestrian and vehicular movement.

The incomplete work has also badly affected street vendors, who used to do business  along this road.

The incomplete works on Rashtrapathi Road is also said to be one of the reasons for the defeat of Congress candidate Kalale Keshavamurthy, who as an MLA earlier showed little interest in ensuring that the works are complete.

Now, although it is said that the works will resume once the Rathabeedhi works in the town are completed, it is learnt that the works cannot be taken up right away.

The incomplete works is also posing health problems as the underground drainage along the road is broken at some points, with drain water leaking all along the road with unbearable pungent smell.

Now with the polls over, the newly-elected MLA B. Harshavardhan should take up the issue in right earnest and ensure that the works are expedited.

At the same time, it is also necessary to ensure that the quality of works is not compromised, say residents.
