India all set to host the mega event

With just days left for the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017, hosts India is set to host the tournament from Oct. 6 to Oct. 28. A total of 24, divided in to six groups having four teams each, will be taking part in the tournament. This is the first time that a FIFA tournament is being held in the country.

India is in Group A of the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017 with USA, Colombia and Ghana. And, incidentally Colombia, the first team to arrive in the nation for the FIFA World Cup, are practising at the same training ground as India.

The Indian Colts face USA on Oct. 6, before locking horns with Colombia and Ghana on Oct. 9 and Oct. 12 respectively at New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The kick-off for all matches is at 8 pm (IST).

The venues for the World Cup will be Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata; Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi; Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi; D.Y. Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai; Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Guwahati and Fatorda Stadium, Margao.

The top two teams in each group will qualify for the round of 16. The last placed team in the group will be eliminated. Meanwhile, the third placed team in each group will be playing against each other and the top four teams will qualify for the Round of 16. The round of 16 will start from Oct.16, the quarterfinals from Oct. 22, semi-finals from Oct. 25 and the final will be on Oct. 28.

Group A: India, United States, Colombia and Ghana.

Group D: North Korea, Niger, Brazil and Spain

Group E: Honduras, Japan, New Caledonia and France
