Seminar on ‘Save Western Ghats Campaign’

Mysuru: Janachetana Trust and Swadeshi Jagaran Manch Karnataka (SJMK) together had organised a seminar on ‘Save Western Ghats Campaign’ at the Mini Auditorium in Kalamandira premises here yesterday. About 200 environmentalists and students participated in the seminar.

Inaugurating the programme, Senior Environmentalist Dr. Yellappa Reddy regretted that the Western Ghats was being destroyed very badly which almost amounts to desecrating ‘Bhoothayi’ or Mother Earth.

He commended that older generation who built temples atop many hills which prevented people from destroying hills. He pointed out that on the pretext of development, Western Ghats was being destroyed.

Referring to the recent natural calamity in Kerala and Kodagu, Dr. Yellappa Reddy regretted that politicians were only interested in relief materials and not bothered to introspect on the natural reasons behind the calamity.

He asserted that indifference was the greatest disease in India. He regretted that the Government has neither brain nor heart to probe a calamity.

Environmentalist and Swadeshi Jagaran Manch National Convenor B.M. Kumaraswamy and Organic Farmer Nimala Gowda spoke. Trust President Prasanna N. Gowda, SJMK Convenor N.R. Manjunath and others were present.
