Music University bags Rolling Shield in Sugama Sangeetha contest

Mysuru: Rangayana Director Bhagirathi Bai Kadam has said that she developed interest in  theatre after drawing inspiration from Kannada matinee idol Dr. Rajkumar, in her college days.

She was speaking after distributing prizes to winners of Go.Ru.Cha Inter-collegiate Sugama Sangeetha contest-2017 at a programme jointly organised by Rotary Mysore North, Inner Wheel North and Rotaract Club of Mysore North at Rotary Hall on JLB road here yesterday.

Stating that Gavadagere in Hunsur taluk is her native village, Bhagirathi Bai said she joined Neenasam theatre school at Shivamogga after studying PUC in Mysuru.

Reiterating that she was very much inspired by Dr. Rajkumar’s talent, she said that she performed plays at the State and National level after graduating from Neenasam.

The winners of the contests are as follows:

Bhavageethe: First prize – M.R. Vishnu of Sadvidya PU College, Second prize- Sharadi Patil of Music University, Third prize- S.A. Vinayak of Mahajana PU College.

Janapadageethe: First prize- H.M. Lakshmi of Music University, Second prize- M.R. Vishnu, Third prize- M.N. Shivaraj of Music University.

Film songs: First prize- M.R. Vishnu, Second prize- K.C. Nikhil of JSS Polytechnic, Third prize- M.S. Vishnu Teertha of BGS PU College.

Specially-abled singer Eera Nayak was awarded a special prize.

Music University bagged the Rolling Shield.

Senior theatre person Rtn.Rajashekar Kadamba, Rtn. B.R. Shivakumar, Rtn.G.R. Parameshwarappa and others were present.

The rolling shield and Bhavageethe prizes have been instituted by G.R. Parameshwarappa, Rotarians Channabasavaradhya and Ramdas, while Rtn. Vijaya Chinnaswamy has instituted the prize for film songs and Rtn.       Sharada Shivalingaswamy for folk songs.
