Inter-Collegiate, Inter-Zonal Women’s Sports Meet in city from tomorrow

The Department of Physical Education, SBRR Mahajana First Grade College, Mysuru, in association with the Department of Physical Education, University of Mysore (UoM), has organised a three-day Inter-Collegiate, Inter-Zonal Women’s Meet from Feb.14 to 16 at the College premises.

International Volleyball Coach H.N. Hemalatha will inaugurate the Sports Meet. Prof. Hemantha Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, UoM, will be the chief guest. R. Vasudeva Murthy, President of Mahajana Education Society (MES), will preside. Dr. Krishnaiah, Director (in-Charge), Department of Physical Education (DPE), UoM and Dr. S. Venkataramu, Principal, will be present.

All arrangements have been made to host the multiple event meet comprising 14 games like Volleyball, Throwball, Basketball, Shuttle and Ball Badminton, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Softball, Chess, Tennikoit, Hockey, Handball, Kho-Kho and Kabaddi.

In all, 700 athletes from across 50 Colleges spread over the districts of Mysuru, Hassan, Mandya and Chamarajanagara will take part in the Meet.

The colleges are divided into five zones — Chamundi, Mandavya, Malnad, Krishnaraja and Chamaraja.

At stake for the athletes are 42 trophies and the team with the highest number of points will be declared as the Overall Champions. SBRR Mahajana First Grade College had emerged as Overall Champions with 27 points in the last year’s meet.

About 100 PE Directors from different Colleges are expected to officiate as umpires/ referees.

At the valedictory, Muralidhar Bhagavath, Vice-President, MES, will be the chief guest. Dr. Vijayalakshmi Muralidhar, Hon. Secretary, MES, will preside.

The sports extravaganza is being organised under the leadership of Dr. H.N Bhaskar, PE Director, Madhusudhan, and Somashekar of the Physical Education Department along with other faculty and a team of student volunteers.
