International Yoga Day in city on June 21

June 9, 2018

Mysuru: Even though the city has lost a chance to host the International Day of Yoga (unofficially referred to as International Yoga Day), Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G. Sankar has directed the officials of the District Administration to make all preparations for celebrating it on June 21 at the Race Course.

The second rehearsal will be held tomorrow (June 10) at Mysore Palace between 6 am and 8 am. People can register at www.yogadaymysuru.com. The third rehearsal will be held on June 17, he said.

He was addressing the preliminary meeting of the officials and said that all efforts will be made to provide monetary resource to celebrate International Yoga Day. The officials and the voluntary organisations must make all efforts to see that people participate in large numbers.

It is a matter of pride that Mysuru entered the Guinness Book  of World Records. Hence, everyone must work hard to see that the city becomes a yoga tourist centre. He added that snake-catchers must be made available to catch snakes in the Race Course.

It was also discussed to include private educational institutions like the JSS, ICSE  schools, yoga federations, Department of Public Instruction, Department of PU Education, University of Mysore, Backward Classes and Social Welfare Department, students from various hostels, NSS and NCC cadets.

The responsibility of finding a place in the Race Course to perform yoga was entrusted to the Department of Survey and Land Records and transporting yoga enthusiasts to the venue to the KSRTC.

The other Departments entrusted with the responsibilities included Department of Food and Civil Supplies to supply breakfast to participants; Health Department to provide ambulance services and first-aid; Department of Tourism for publicity; MUDA for setting up the dais; providing water and maintaining cleanliness to MCC; Parking to the Police Department and Fire and Emergency Services and electricity to the respective departments.
