International Yoga Day on June 21: District Administration plans for mega show

Mysuru: The District Administration has plans to put up a mega yoga show on June 21 as part of International Yoga Day celebrations.

Addressing the preliminary meeting at his office, Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep said that this year the District Administration aimed to create a record by bringing more than 50,000 people at one place to demonstrate various yoga asanas.

Last year nearly 35,000 people had participated in the mass yoga programme held at Lucknow and the aim was to break this record, he said.

The mass yoga will be performed on the stretch from Hardinge Circle to D. Devaraja Urs Road and on Ashoka Road as well. Traffic on the entire stretch will be blocked from 6 am to 8 am to facilitate the programme.  District level officials have been instructed to bring students from various schools and colleges, yoga institutions, NCC,            NSS and others.

As part of the programme, the Department of Collegiate Education will get 2,000 students, DDPI – 10,000 students from Std 8-10, 10,000 Patanjali yoga students, 1,000 volunteers from Brahmakumaris, 1,000 from Vivekananda Yoga  Institute, students from Government Yoga and Naturopathy College, Ayurveda College and MMC and RI, Engineering College, 15,000 volunteers from JSS Mahavidyapeeta, staff members of central institutions such as DFRL, CFTRI, RBI, RMP, Postal Service, Scouts and Guides and other associations.

District Administration will provide breakfast for all participants along with water. Organisers will erect three stages measuring 80ftx40ft for VVIPs and VIPs and two others for instructors. This apart, 25 LED lights will be put up at different locations for the benefit of the public participating in the event.

The organisers are yet to decide on the celebrity guests for the event. However, the officials present in the meeting suggested the names of Rahul Dravid, Saina Nehwal, P.V. Sindhu and actress Aindritha Rai for which the final decision will be taken in the days to come.

Nataraj, Department of Tourism Deputy Director Janardhan, District AYUSH officer Dr. Seethalakshmi, DCP Rudramuni, Hotel Owners Association President Narayana Gowda, Mysore Travel Association President B.S. Prashanth, District Fire Officer Gururaj, GSS Foundation President D.

Srihari, Yoga Instructor Kanchana Ganga and others were present on the occasion.
