Irregularities in K-SET: State BCM Panel Chief expresses concern over wrongdoings in Mysore Varsity

July 6, 2017

Mysuru: The University of Mysore that celebrated its centenary with hardly a whiff of scandal and with the three Constitutional Heads, the President, Prime Minister and the Vice President attending the functions, is now-a-days in the news for all the wrong reasons.

The latest in a series of alleged wrongdoings by the previous administration is the charge that there are irregularities in the Karnataka State Eligibility Test (K-SET), conducted by the University of Mysore for selection of Lecturers/Assistant Professors. This was disclosed by the Chairman of Legislative Standing Committee for Backward Classes and Minorities, J.R. Lobo, here yesterday.

Addressing the media after chairing a review meeting by the Karnataka State Legislative Standing Committee for Backward Classes and Minorities at the Crawford Hall, he said that in the tests conducted by the University since the last three years, it was found that there is a tilt towards a particular community in the selection process. How is it possible? This was the question raised by the members of the Standing Committee. In the light of the doubts expressed by the members, Registrar Bharati has been asked to look into the matter and give a preliminary report, he said.

Apart from this in the last ten years, nobody in the University had been given promotion. In spite of this, the previous Vice-Chancellor in the last days of his tenure had given promotion to a few violating the rules and giving CAS (Career Advancement Scheme) certificates. Also, there are complaints heard regarding the violations while appointing teaching and non-teaching staff and we asked for more information on this, said Lobo.

Once the report comes out, the Legislative Standing Committee will meet again to take decision, he said and added that it looks like the University of Mysore administration does not respect the law at all and this came to light while reviewing its working.

“It is a sad state of affairs to see that such educational institutions, which create future citizens of the country, have indulged in corruption, irregularities and nepotism. It is a shame and black mark on a historic institution,” he said expressing his displeasure.

Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dayananda Mane, Registrar Bharati, members of the Standing Committee Narendra Swami, M.D. Lakshminarayan, K. Abdul Jabbar, Syed Mudeer Aga, B.B. Patil, M.S. Sunil Subramani, Syndicate Member M.S.S. Kumar and other officials were present at the meeting.

  1. Shocking to read about yet another SCAM in the UOM. Which is why this University now needs a very capable, powerful and upright man as its new VC to clean up the Augean Stables, someone like Dr. Rudrappa, perhaps, even stronger than him , to instill respect for law and to infuse a sense of discipline amongst the staff, both teaching and non-teaching. Otherwise, it will be mired in the abyss of scandals it will never really recover from. Therefore, the Govt. should not go by extraneous considerations like community etc, in the appointment of the VC, preferably an OUTSOURCED academic-administrator who has the guts and the ablity to accept the challenge of pulling the UOM from the quagmire of corruption, indiscipline, frauds and what have you? There is no need or justification of offering the post with an eye to electoral gains. The University needs a NO-NONSENSE VC . Will the Govt. and the Governor do it>?

Plenty of wrong doings in K-set in the last 3 yrs. One student failed in I sem, failed in II sem, failed in III sem, yet he passes K-set with utmost ease in the first attempt. The whole world knows about this. If one digs the grave, truth will come out. Now a days it is very difficult to get a clean handed VC, because every one knows how a VC is recommended and selected. Best thing is get rid of K-set. The same story happened in Dharwar many years ago. One cant stop RAKTHA BEEJASURARU.
