ISRO poised to surpass other space agencies: Dr. S.N. Prasad

September 3, 2024

Mysuru: The Department of Physics at SBRR Mahajana First Grade College celebrated National Space Day in the college quadrangle recently.

The event featured Dr. S.N. Prasad, Former Principal and Professor of Physics at the Regional Institute of Education, Mysuru, as the guest of honour.

Dr. Prasad highlighted the significance of National Space Day, commemorating the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3.

Sharing his personal experiences, he recounted the historic moment when he witnessed the launch of Chandrayaan-3 in Sriharikota and observing solar eclipse in America in 2017.

Praising Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) remarkable achievements, Dr. Prasad noted how India’s space agency has risen to compete with global giants like America, China and Russia. He reflected on the early challenges faced by ISRO, where spacecraft were once transported on bullock carts, and lauded the country’s progress through the adoption of modern technologies.

He emphasised ISRO’s ambitious future projects, including the upcoming ‘Gaganyaan’ mission, which aims to send Indians into space within a few years. He asserted that ISRO is poised to surpass other space agencies in the near future.

He also touched on broader implications of Chandrayaan-3’s success, both scientifically and socially. Drawing a comparison, he mentioned how NASA sent humans to the lunar surface 15 years ago to collect soil samples, whereas India achieved a similar feat through remote controllers, underscoring the progress made by the nation.

He urged youths to contribute to India’s development, emphasising the role of science in shaping the future.

College Principal Dr. B.R. Jayakumari stressed the importance of recognising scientific achievements, stating, “Just as Panchabhutas (five elements) are essential for a country’s development, science is equally crucial for pursuit of knowledge.”
