JD(S) Corporators seek site for party office

July 9, 2019

Mysuru: The MCC Council meeting held yesterday at Old Council Hall  was dominated by a verbal exchange between BJP and JD(S) Corporators, with Corporators from the JD(S) which is ruling the MCC in alliance with the Congress, demanding that a corner site close to MUDA office be allotted to the party for constructing JD(S) city office.

When JD(S) Corporators urged  Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath that the MCC must pass a resolution allotting the corner site for the party’s city office, BJP Corporators opposed the same citing that there were no rules to allot such sites straight-away and the JD(S) instead should buy the site wherever it wants in public auction.

Maintaining that the BJP does not have offices in many MCC Wards due to paucity of sites, the BJP Corporators vehemently opposed the JD(S) demand. But the JD(S) members insisted that there were many instances in the past where sites were allotted to political parties.

Earlier, as soon as the meeting began, former Mayor Ayub Khan of the Congress, objected to MP Pratap Simha’s statement that a mafia was ruling the MCC.

Replying to Ayub Khan, BJP Corporators defended Simha saying that the MP had not used the word ‘mafia’ and had only pointed out the discrimination in the allotment of funds among Corporators.

After a debate on the issue with Congress members sticking on to their stand and the BJP members defending their MP, Mayor Pushpalatha announced that she would write to the MP seeking a clarification from him on his statement, which the Congress claimed was an insult to the city fathers. Later, B.V. Manjunath of the BJP sought a copy of the MCC Budget so that he can refer to it and discuss issues based on the allotments.
