Jewel thief arrested: Gold ornaments, silver articles worth Rs. 7.53 lakh recovered

Mysore/Mysuru: Lashkar Police, on Nov. 5 have arrested a 25-year-old youth on charges of lifting gold jewellery and cash from the bag of a woman at a silk showroom and have recovered gold ornaments and silver articles worth Rs. 7,53,500 from him.

The accused is Mohammed Yousuf, a resident of Tanveer Sait Nagar in city.

The accused, on Oct. 21 had lifted 74 grams gold jewellery and Rs. 10,000 cash kept in a bag of a woman, who had come to a silk showroom for shopping. Following the gold jewellery and cash missing from the bag, the woman had lodged a complaint with Lashkar Police.

Based on the complaint, Lashkar Police, who had registered a case, picked up the accused on Nov. 5 from the KSRTC Bus Stand, while he was moving around in a suspicious manner. During interrogation, the accused is said to have told the Police of lifting gold jewellery from the bag of a woman besides decamping with gold ornaments and silver articles from a house at Aravindanagar. The accused is also said to have told the Police that he had tried to snatch away cash from a person, who was counting it at Gagan Residency on Keshava Iyengar Road in city by assaulting him with a blade on his face, hands and stomach.

Based on the information provided by the accused, the Police have recovered 160 grams gold jewellery and 25 grams silver articles, all worth Rs. 7,53,500 from him. Following his arrest, the Police have solved three cases in Lashkar and one case in Ashokapuram Police Station.

DCP M.S. Geetha Prasanna and Devaraja Sub-Division ACP Shashidhar supervised Lashkar Inspector S.D. Suresh Kumar, Sub-Inspectors Dhanalakshmi and Gowtham Gowda and staff Lokesh, Adam, Vijayakumar, Mahadevaswamy, Bopaiah, Manjunath, Pratheepa and Manjunath in the nabbing and recovery operation, according to a press release from the City Police Commissioner’s Office.
