November 22, 2017

1,274 students conferred degrees

Mysuru: Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala exhorted the students of JSS University to have a spirit of sacrifice while serving the poor of the country.

Delivering the eighth Convocation address after presenting the Gold Medals to the graduating students, at Sri Rajendra Auditorium, JSS Medical College in Sri Shivarathreeshwara Nagar, this morning, Vajubhai Vala, in his half-an-hour speech in Hindi, peppered with humour said that once one becomes a doctor one should not be there just to make money.

“Money is important but the profession of a doctor is very sacred and hence, every doctor must be oriented toward social service,” he stressed. The country known for its adage ‘Daridra Devo Bhava,’ has always believed in serving the poor. And as doctors who have entered the field afresh, it is your duty to focus on providing them best healthcare, he said.

Vajubhai Vala pointed out that though the students spent money out of their pockets to study medicine, they should also remember that Government also spends a lot of money on them and this money comes from the public. Hence, it is important that they give something back to the society, he added.

“The country is making rapid strides and is marching ahead even of America. The very fact that Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched 104 satellites creating history, which even a country like US has not been able to achieve, shows the capabilities of the country,” he said.

Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala seen with Suttur Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji, JSS University Vice-Chancellor Dr. B. Suresh, JSS Mahavidyapeetha Executive Secretary Dr. C.G. Betsurmath and graduating students at the 8th Convocation of JSS University held in city this morning.

It is heartening to see that 70 percent of the students who have graduated are girls. “The reason is because the girls are more serious in their studies than boys. They return home early and start studying unlike boys who have many distractions. However, there is not much difference between the two and whatever you do you should do with pride and courage,” he said.
